Goalie Drill – Butterfly slide – Hockey Resource

EmailFacebookRedditTwitterShare

This drill is designed to practise the butterfly slide by using one-timers. It is similar to what a goaltender might encounter in a game situation.

The goaltender starts facing X1 which has the puck. X1 the passes the puck to X2 or X3 which shoots a one-timer. The goaltender must butterfly slide in order to make the save.

Note: The pass speed should be of the goaltender’s level in order to make this drill challenging but not impossible. The shot should be on its way to the net before the goaltender is fully in position. The goalie should move towards his post when making the butterfly slide to be in proper position and to reduce travel distance.
